Privacy Policy
This website gives readers of American Mah Jongg, How to Play and Win access to the video course and printables that come with the book. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. We keep it short because we collect very little.
Who is responsible
The data controller is the publisher of this website and of the book by Marian Kessler. The publisher is based in France, so the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies. For any question or request: contact@learn-american-mahjong.com.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address, when you sign up for the course. We use it to give you access to the course (sign-in buttons and codes) and, as stated on the sign-up form, to send you emails about the course, including occasional offers. Legal basis: providing the service you asked for, and your consent for course news and offers.
- Proof of your consent: the date, the wording you agreed to (currently: “By signing up, you agree to receive emails about the course, including occasional offers. Unsubscribe anytime.”) and the IP address of the sign-up. We keep it to be able to show that you agreed.
- Your course progress: which lessons you watched and where you stopped, so you can resume on any device.
- Technical logs: the server records requests (IP address, date, page, browser) to keep the site secure and working. These logs are kept for 12 months at most.
We do not use analytics, advertising trackers or social media pixels, and we never sell or rent your email address.
Cookies
This site sets one cookie, lam_session, which keeps you signed in for up to one year, and a short-lived one, lam_pending, which remembers your address for 30 minutes while you type a sign-in code. Both are strictly necessary for the course to work, so they do not require a consent banner. Your preferred playback speed is stored in your browser only. Fonts and images are served from this site, not from third parties.
Who processes your data for us
- Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France) sends our emails and stores the mailing list.
- Hostinger hosts the server that runs this website (servers in the European Union, France).
How long we keep it
Your account and progress are kept while you use the course, and deleted after three years without any sign-in, or sooner if you ask. If you unsubscribe from emails, we keep your address only to make sure we do not email you again, and to let you keep signing in to your course.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, to receive a copy of it, or to object to its use, by writing to contact@learn-american-mahjong.com. You can stop course news and offers at any time with the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of every email. If you think your data is mishandled, you can complain to the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr), or to your own local authority.
